I seriously cannot imagine them EVERY going through an ugly stage, but I think my Jersey Giants are gorgeous, and I have a small batch of 4-week olds right now that are....AHEM....let's just say, not gorgeous.

So, I GUESS that can happen! It's okay, it's probably designed so that by the time they hit that ugly stage, you're already smitten with them and simply don't care, or think they're so ugly they're cute!

I HEARD IT! I HEARD IT! the first QUACK!

I was holding Gabby last night, walking around the garage with her, and suddenly, from the brooder...QUACK! DH and I looked at each other, and then again, QUACK! we went to look in, and saw it was one of the Welsh Harlequin - not sure if it was Dolly or Cookie, but SO cute! Is that "right on schedule" - around 4 weeks?

I'm not sure since I have Muscovies and they don't quack unless scared. but congrats!! I think

I know, right? What a silly thing to be excited about, but I AM excited! My gals are growing up! The funny thing was that as soon as I put Gabby back into the brooder, they were all peeping again.

So, must have been an "upset" quack!

Hi, friends! Well, our four little quackers (well, okay, only 1 is quacking) had their first outing in our back yard today! Their coop and run is almost ready for them, they'll be going out this week, and they've not gotten a ton of time outside since we've been having horrendous weather this past week! But, between the storms, we took them out (haven't been able to mow lawn due to the rain) and I thought I'd share some pics.

Love that you can see the fuzz AND feathers coming in! They're looking (for them) a bit ratty at this point - I still think they're wicked cute, though!

Duckie butts! Tried (in vain) to get all 4 of them to turn away so I could get them all in a row, but alas...there's ALWAYS one in every crowd that doesn't want to follow the rules!

We were panicking, as they kept trying to eat the dried "whirlygigs" from the Silver Maple tree...I made sure they had plenty of grit along with their feed, but hope they didn't overdo it yesterday!

On the go!

Love this pic - Dolly, Molly, Cookie, Gabby:
