So you understand where I'm coming from, this is what inspired my post.
Recently something was said, I took offense. I caught some flack and insult for my comment. Not the first time I'll admit.
So here are some things we may all fail to realize.
1. This is a public forum. Nothing you say should be considered private. Anything you say can and may be read by others. All postings to a thread should be considered a public conversation.
Meaning? That all forum members should be considered part of the "conversation". At least the way I see it.
2. Every member can be "followed" by other members. YOU might have a following. Some of you are very knowledgeable and while others may not comment or interject into the "conversation" they may be listening. You have an audience. Please keep this in mind when mentioning other groups of people.
Point? When someone who has not posted to the thread, but is listening in, does interject you should not get all "where did that come from?" In my case told "you're out of left field".
Are you who are being "followed" aware that those who follow you are notified by email when you speak?
3. Because this is a public forum there will be others who have different views/value system than you may have. Undoubtedly conflicts will arise. If we members of BYC can not respect others opposing values/views how can we expect the rest of the world to get along and not want to go to war? imho, we may not agree but I'm your friend and will be there to help if I can.
4. Are you aware that when you mention another member in a post, they are notified by email? If they've subscribed to the thread.
5. Only "Private Messages" and emails between members are truly private.
6. Is it wise to expect that when you form a thread that you'd like to be a "Private club/click" to expect new members to understand they're excluded from asking questions? Should members expect they have the right to form private clicks or clubs on a public site like BYC? Who gets to decide who can join your thread?
7. While I am not ancient of days, I do realize offenses will and have come. I also realize I can and have offended. I'm a big boy. I can and have owned up to it. I have apologized. However I've never been very good at holding a grudge, so if you offend me, It's not likely to cause me to ignore nor break our bond. At least not on my end. I'll admit to not understanding grudge holders. It's just not in my nature.
Yet I've also made the mistake to assume with some members a bond of friendship, to my own hurt.
I'll admit to loving BYC and it's members. I write the website on my business cards and invite anyone who remotely mentions something we talk about here to join.
I hope my comments don't offend anyone but help bring understanding of how this forum system works. At least from my point of view. Lord knows I've never been very good at expressing myself.
I wish you peace,
Rancher
On the other hand maybe I'm being naive and no one really cares.
