Things you wish you could say

Doctors automatically prescribing drugs to remedy issues that can be solved by diet, exercise and self control is also a beef of mine.
Science has deep roots in natural medicine, most drugs are synthesized and measured versions of natural substances. Natural medicine is legitimate treatment.
Both methods are valid, when done properly.
Throwing a bunch of mint leaves in your birds food and calling it medicine is not legitimate treatment, it's a placebo.

Taking modern meds to combat an infection is legitimate treatment.
Someone taking meds to substitute their lack of self control of in shoving a cupcake in their piehole is not legitimate treatment, its a placebo.
This. 1,000% this. Just because something is natural does not make it good. Take poison ivy. I will not rub that on anything to improve whatever the issue is. But I do love natural care. I will take an herbal remedy for something before I'll take meds for it. Everything has value somewhere

Here, have a cup of all natural hemlock! Tried one of these mushrooms lately?

What has my concern now are all the weight loss drugs that have exploded onto the market within the last year. They're going to wreak havoc around the world. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I was with you guys until this turn... because you don't know why someone is taking a medication.

There are legitimate metabolic disorders that cause people to gain weight that have no specific medication. But for which weight loss itself can prove helpful (yet very hard to accomplish).
A good example is PCOS. Too much testosterone in the female body, can cause retention of fat around the middle. That fat is a sponge for testosterone, which then keeps the hormones out of whack and leads to a state of Insulin Resistance causing the body to produce more fat on the same diet.
The only solution is to lose fat, which is hard when the body is so desperately grabbing onto it. It's a difficult cycle to get stuck in, not to mention the energy depletion that comes with the Insulin Resistance (food is not turning to energy).

As one of many women with PCOS, I could really use one of those GLP drugs. My DR wants me to have it. But insurance won't cover it and they are way too expensive.
It's not magic, it just influences the body response to insulin. A help and nothing more.

I am going to go down a random rabbit hole!
Poison ivy was historically used as a remedy for dozens of skin issues, such as curing shingles, measles, or sores in general. I also seem to recall reading that it was used on some form of wound... Maybe burns or open wounds? To help stop infection and form a "natural" Band-Aid over to area, and help it heal faster. Interesting stuff! I can't find much on it with a quick search. But it's cool nonetheless.

I completely agree with you. What you are dealing with is different than someone who wants to take it for the wrong reasons. These are powerful drugs that can cause permanent changes to one’s digestive system. So do your research and be smart about it.

Along this same line, sassafras was thought to cure gonorrhea. Fortunately we discovered a better way to use it in root beer!
