Actually, Mentee is a word. Protege would be used more for someone much younger than their mentor.

Okay. I think mentee has come into use because people did not know the word protegee so just made up mentee but I could be wrong.

The Webster Dictionary’s definition of Mentee is Protege, at least both words are in the dictionary unlike most of the terms my kids use!
