Reading does not come easy to me. I lose my place, have to go back and reread because seems I missed something, etc etc.
Feels more like a chore then entertainment.

I finally started to understand that when I started reading in other languages back in high school. In English, I don't consciously see the words on the page, but am rather hearing the dialogue, seeing the pictures. I take in entire paragraphs almost at once.

When I read Cyrano de Bergerac and Le Petit Prince in French, or fairy tales in Japanese, it was like a light switch went on. "Oh! This is what reading is like for a lot of people. No wonder they don't read as much as I do!"

Ya my brother is a read freak. Like we'd stop at a gas station to get gas and he'd come back to the car with a book. I didn't even know any gas stations sold books.
When kids my mom and grandma got the set of encyclopedias one book at time with green stamps or something. He couldn't wait for the next new one so he could sit down and read it.
I could never wrap my head around how much he loved to read and he could never understand how come I didn't like to.

I wish I remembered that it was going to be stormy this afternoon before agreeing to come in to cover a shift today

I also wish I remembered that before rinsing the ash out of my grill 'cause the rain would have done it for me (I mean, it only took me 2 minutes but still)

I completely understand this. Your brain has to almost be in a meditative state to read, so I struggle if I'm tired/stressed/distracted. Sorry I teased without knowing the whole picture. Sometimes I can't tell if you're serious or just being a jokester!
