Things you wish you could say

6 days, I need to ask off for a vacation in August, but my mom expects me to already know how to do EVERYTHING. She yelled at me for not knowing how to get a job in the first place, like Lady I've never done this before
Sounds like it would be a vacation for you to stay home alone and go to work.

Sorry about the grief from both sides.
FYI; If you know your going to need time off when you start, let them know then. If they CAN'T give you off that time it's better to know then. If you spring it on them later it may sound like you decided you want a vacation after just starting.

so I shouldn't ask off? I've already stayed home from a vacation.. this will be my first time seeing family again in a YEAR after covid. its family weekend at the lake , I didn't know any better that I was supposed to ask off when I started? I thought two weeks was formal????

I didn't even know I needed to ask before I started, as my mom JUST brought up yesterday "make sure you take time off for family weekend" which we do every year, BUT I never know what weekend it will be so I had no idea of the dates beforehand

If you wanna go, go. Two weeks is a norm, my work is three weeks. The sooner the better tho. What if a bunch of others get approved for the same time off before you even request?

If the time off is for a weekend, ask your supervisor/manager about it the next time you're at work. Go in a little early and ask before you punch in so you're not doing "personal stuff" off the clock. If it's for a week... they might not say yes, but ask anyway.

When I was in charge of shipping where I worked, I could tell the people who wanted to do a good job and were good coworkers by the way they handled stuff like this. We were thinly staffed, so anyone gone put extra work on everyone else.
