It will take about a year for mine to be built. I had to sell my old house to finish paying for this house and I can't afford to rent a place. I'm spending all of my money on my dream/retirement house.
You're a brave soul! The new place should be done by the end of the year. I can do this for three more months.
You do what you have to. People are often tougher than they think. I've been on my own since I was 15. Off and on since I was 12. I'll survive this too, and it will be so worth it when the house is done! You're a brave soul!![]()
I have toilets as of yesterday!
Yay!! We knoe EXACTLY how you feel! We homesteaded on 5 acres in a 12x16 foot cabin with loft on a basement. No electricity for 2 years. We lived like Amish (i can say that- we have a huge Amish community & know more Amish then Englishers). We has a wood stove for heat & cooking, used gas lanterns, and played cards and road snowmobile for entertainment. For showers, we went to the truckstop weekly. A generator was run once a day to fill up the bladder in the basement so we could have cold running water for flushing & the sink. You do what you have to. People are often tougher than they think. I'm a city woman and an IT geek. I miss my electronics and creature comforts. I know I will have them again, and that the sacrifice now will get me the dream home that I've been wanting for decades.Yay!! We knoe EXACTLY how you feel! I remember well our first flush (via generator) was a joy!
Fast forward 22 years later. We added on, half of it is still unfinished, and we long for those simpler days.
Yes!!! We used a pedestal sink for that. It was a long time before we could save enough for a hot water heater - 5 gallon! 5 minute shower!I'm a city woman and an IT geek. Today was my second day in a row with a hot shower. I think I'm in heaven. There's a sink in the laundry room now where I can brush my teeth and do some dishes.
