Things you wish you could say

I'm trying to find a plain, generic kitten for my dad, and these buggers want $40 to $160 for one one. Or they're not kittens but 7 months old.
People also want $300 for mixed breed pups, with no shots or fixing.
$40-$160 for a kitten is reasonable IF they've had all of their shots (lower end) and are already fixed (higher end). You have to spend that money for the vet costs. A lot of people with rehoming fees will waive them if you say that you'd rather spend the money for their shots and spay/neuter.

Nope, no shots, not fixed. I did bring that up to someone I contacted. "Then you can't afford to own an animals, they're a privilege not a right."

Chica, your cat did all the work, and she's still eating from the same bag of cat food you bought two months ago.

Someone on NextDoor was asking a $20 rehoming fee. When I talked to her, she said that she would give them to me for free, she just wanted them to go to a good home. I definitely spent more than that on shots and spay for those two little mischief monsters.

If you're checking on craigslist, you get some real nutters on there. PETA fanatic types.

Good idea. Yes, I was looking at Craigslist, next door is a good place to check.

I wish I could say I didn’t need a new SIM card. And also that the eSIM he tried actually worked LOL but it didn't work so he just replaced the physical. Oh well.

ETA:

Also he said it’s a common problem with the iPhones apparently. So I’m glad I went.

Check FB marketplace too. Your local shelter won't be cheap, but they will have all of their shots and already be spayed or neutered.
The local fb market place has more nutters than Craigslist. 😬 Our shelter is actually running a promotion right now, $25 for a cat or $50 for a dog. the cats are older, which is OK, and most are rescued ferals. Look at this pretty little lady.
I would get her but Cat 2 would get her nose all out of joint.

It's hard to find kittens this time of year. Starting around March they'll be everywhere.

The ads I see are $1500 and up.
For a mixed breed...? Shots? Spayed/neutered? Pure bred, breeding or show quality?

For that price, I would expect a 1) purebred; 2)first puppy shots; 3) good lineage, but not necessarily show/breeding quality.

Or maybe I'm way out of touch with prices on dogs.

When we adopted our last two dogs, we paid about $200 each. Both were spayed and current on shots. Both were full grown.
