Things you wish you could say

Going to do devils advocate just a tad though. I'd rather they don't grab that fruit or vegetable than have to take it and just throw it away
They have to take it though. I hear what you are saying, believe me. The amount of food that gets thrown away would make Chuck Norris cry. But michelle obama changed what the USDA required cafeterias to serve. The kids HAVE to take at least a half cup of fruit or veggie every day. And they can't save it for other kids. If they don't eat it, it gets trashed

Our school tried to have student make the choice to put unused fruits and unopened milk cartons in a bin to either be given to a food pantry or farmer but we quickly found out that that wasn’t allowed by law. So students just throw out the food. It is so sad!

All of that was actually in the works before the Obama administration.
She just streamlined it and got it pushed on through.
no one was ever getting obese off of a school meal if the school was following the program the way it was designed to begin with. 🤦
instead of making all the ridiculous changes they should have just cracked down on the schools who were not following the program as designed.

It is..
But if you stop and think about it,
Do you really want your kid to eat something after Little Johnny has had his grubby little fingers all over it and done god knows what with it first? And then who knows how long that milk carton has set out to get warm between the time Little Johnny's grubby fingers got on it and the time it makes it to a food pantry?

Or how about the parents? The ones that when you have to call them to tell them their child is negative in their lunch account and it needs paid, they get all pissy and don't think they have to pay it back. Not this year obviously, but it will start up again next year!

Luckily I don't have to deal with that our school has an automatic calling system. That has worked better than anything.. they get an automatic call with a recorded message. It calls them everyday until their account is brought current. :lau
Oh yeah..that makes people mad alright.

Milk I understand but the kids have to pull it straight out of the refrigerated coolers and our lunch times are the minimal amount of time allowed (we have a huge school district and to make sure everyone can eat, our lunch cycles start at 10:30 and the last group comes through at 1:00). Everything that was returned went into a smaller refrigerated cooler and everything gets washed and inspected by our wonderful lunch staff.

But even worse than that.. I heard a kindergarten teacher say one time that kids should be denied recess until their lunch bill was paid.:mad:
Seriously? As if a five year old has any control over their finances.
Absolutely sickening. I almost blew a gasket.

That's good! I'm gonna have to bring that up to my boss.
