Things you wish you could say

You have NOT seen the disregard here at the parish that I saw all of these things at.
We once had a similar problem in our church. Grape juice! In spite of signs on the sanctuary doors clearly stating no food or drink in the sanctuary other than water, we had an ... individual ... who would feed her grandchildren in there. We had to have the carpet professionally steam-cleaned to remove grape juice stains. The cost was in the hundreds of dollars, totally unnecessary. Why do people think rules apply to everyone else but them?

That's awful.

The parish that I had this issue at has hard flooring.

Sometimes, "difficult conversations" are necessary. Most of the time, if you're polite and explain your reasons, people listen.

Playing devil's advocate here. Sometimes, letting the child eat in the pew, is the only way that the parent can even make it to church. They have to bring their child with them and to keep the child quiet, they feed them a little something, this is also so that they can pay attention to the sermon. Now, that does not give the parent an excuse to let their child run around, make a mess, or make noise. And water should be the only thing they are allowed to drink. But remember, the children are the future of the church, if they don't feel welcome, they won't go to church when they are adults
