A tree did not come down causing a power surge, brown out and the frying of our home. Electric fire smell is scary. We did not lose our furnace, oven, dehumidifier, coffee maker and other appliances. Wish I could say all of that.

I know of cases where people have received reimbursement from the power company but suspect they will consider a down tree as an "act of God".

I'm so sorry, sourland. That's horrifying! We had something similar happen years ago (lightning strike). Not nearly as much damage as what happened to you, but we ended up putting in a whole house surge protector at the electrical box as part of the repair. I hope insurance comes through for you.

Had the electrician here yesterday, and he will install a whole house surge protector.

We did not just lose power again during a flash thunderstorm. Thankfully cable is intact, and generator is running.
