Think i got a Welsummer instead of Cream Legbar - Can you look and say yes or no [pics]

If you're truly concerned, you can hedge your bets by buying another Cream Legbar pullet from a different breeder. (My solution to chicken problems always seems to be to buy more chickens. That's why I have so many.)

oh please dont go there ;)

here in UK chhicken cost so much and i just cant get enough of them

my Hybrid Pullets cost £18 each [16+ week olds] i have 7 plus £30 postage
My Pure Beeds cost £15 [Day olds] each and i have another 7 of them plus £30 postage
and finally i have 4 cockrels that where free [but i payed a 25KG bag of feeds worth for them as a thank you £10] [i collected so £15 petrol]

then i got 5 in the incubator and 6 Ducks to set tmoz

beleive me i would buy more i dont care for cost but then it gets to the point where do i keep them

i'm already running out of segregation coops hehe and my garden is big but it aint that big its a standard UK back yard

Holy Chalupa! I don't know the exact conversion of US vs UK, but that seems like a LOT of money for chickens. Why is it so much over there? And I can see why you want to start breeding, and making back some of the money you've spent!

i think main reason is compatition

there are no hatcheries herein UK like you have in USA

so all birds are brought from breeders and they charge breeder prices knowing that its either them or nothing

like me for example if i start to breed i can charge that and i know people will buy as i will be the only one in a 20-40 Mile radius selling them.

the plus side on that is you get some lovley examples of standards as they are not mass hatched when it comes to the pure breeds and they are very accurate in the breeds [there will always be a excellent cockrel with a few excellent hens and kept unrelated]

the hybrids are mass hatched but then they are utility birds rather then pure breeds

oh btw conversion rate is 1.5 so multiply pounds by 1.5 to give dollars

£18 is aprox $30

I think this is really your best bet.

All kidding aside, it really doesn't go well for the hens if they're in a 1:1 ratio situation with a rooster. You're going to want 2-3 hens to go with your rooster so they're not stressed out from being overbred.

so far i got my roo from one breeder and my hen from another and i will be getting 1 more from another different breeder and then anotherone from another different breeder

the only problem there is money the 2 other breeders are a bit overpriced but to get unrelated chicken its a must so will have to wait a bit

The image of the photo appears to have a pattern on the wings. I have seen photos lots of cream legbar photos and don't remeber seeing the paterns on the wings. I am not sure what all the genetic of chick down are, (but am trying to learn it so I can figure what genes are in the Legbar lines). I think paterned wings ussualy converts to penciling or lacing on adualt birds. It could be from the barring though (What do I know?). This chick has a lot more yellow in its down than I have seen in the other Cream Legbar photos I have seen, so...I can note make any conclutions on breed of the chick. However, you should join the Yahoo Cream Legbar Breeder group. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/CreamLegbarBreeders/ The group already has the owner of the Blue-Eggs.co.uk website and could use some more memebers from England to exchange knowlege and help get the group going.

a Cream Legbar comes from a Gold Legbar Crossed with a Araucana [Thats really just for Green Eggs mainly]

The Gold Legbar comes from Crossing a Brown Leghorn with a Barred Plymouth Rock

So the barrinbg on wings is normal due to barring gene

as for the yellow thats my camera the chick is more a browny red colour

Thanks i will look into those sites

as for it being a welsummer im not too fussed as if it does grow to be a welsummer i will get a replacement out of them

The photo you posted from feathersite is of the male. If you go back to the site and look and the one on the left that the female and that is the one to compare to: http://feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Auto/BRKAutosex.html

The Cream Legbar is an autosexing breed so the boys and girls look different. I think I see a crest on this little girl which makes me think you indeed have a legbar!
