Think I need some medicated feed. Help!

I am a newbie. Started some chicks about 4 months ago. The whole purpose is to be able to feed my family healthy foods that I know what has been put into them. I started with nonmedicated. Now I have some meat birds that have had bloody poop and 2 died. I gave the whole flock a dewormer in the water (ya....I know....not so natural, huh?) Now I have to throw out the eggs for 2 wks. My meaties will be ready to butcher in 2 wks.

I lost a 2yo blue cochin this morning. Started acting sick yesterday, wouldn't move or run away from me. No bloody poop from her, though. Also have a BCM that hasn't layed in a few days, worried about her now.

Long story short....If I feed them medicated starter, can I still butcher in 2 wks? What will it do to the one remaining layer I have left (she's the only one old enough to lay)? Just don't want to lose my whole flock!!!!

Why are you wanting to give them medicated starter? Are you thinking it's cocci? Because if they're already sick with cocci, medicated starter won't solve the problem. If it's cocci, you'll need to treat them with something like Sulmet.

I am so sorry you're having problems. Don't worry about the medicated chick starter now, but your meaties that have blood in the stool will need a medicine called Corid, right away. You can get that at the farm store. Some people recommend Sulmet, and that will work but it is more harsh on the chicks. You can get the Corid powder, which says it's for Bovine, but it's pretty safe and I put 2 level teaspoons in a gallon of drinking water. That will take care of the cocci, which is what is causing the blood in their stool.

Act quickly, because cocci is very deadly. Not sure where you're located, but here in Ohio, it's very hot, humid, and wet, and that is the perfect environment for cocci.

Oh, and I am really not sure what is going on with your adult birds, but it's prob not cocci, which usually strikes with chickens under 17 weeks of age. The marans might be fine....They're not the best layers, and may skip a few days, so if she's not acting sick, I wouldn't worry.....Is she showing symptoms?
