I was working in the aviary(nightpen for the birds ) and saw some breast feathers kind of in bone spot, and thought hmmm is one of the girls starting a nest? But last year their first year , they didn't lay till March or April....Later in the day I noticed one of my ganders was missing some feathers on his breast. There are two ganders and their mates (Tufted Buffs), about 18+ months old , have never seen them even have a spat. Since it is in the night pen(2 kinds of wire with hardware cloth up 36" on the sides and hotwired inside 2 fences, the only thing that has ever gotten in there are mice and well, the snake last year...but since it's the coldest , snowiest winter in Georgia that I have ever been in 35 years! I assume either he pulled it out or the other gander. The pen is 12 X10. , but wonder if the two pairs need separate quarters now that breeding season may start and they are older ......? (They were raise together)
