thinking about getting a duck.. questions

I have 3 Peking and 2 mallards now. I had 2 more mallards but the other 2 flew off, all of the mallards have disappeared for a few days but my 2 little girls have always come back. As far as wandering away mine don't go in the road (They get pretty close they like the ditch). My chickens cross the road and i let them, my all my neighbors think they are great, they are bribed with eggs

I put up a fence around the coop but one of my mallards got smart and found a holes to get the Pekings out of the pen, since the mallards just flew over but they apparently felt bad leaving their friends behind, I gave up on that endeavor. None of my ducks spend any time in the coop other than when they are locked in and they never seem hungry so i think they forage a ton! Mine make 1 1/2 inch holes all over the place where there was any standing water .... they aerate my lawn?

As far as a pond i bought pretty large plastic pond (that you can bury or build walls up around it) I also got a utility pump and pump it out every 5 or so days..... now its getting less since its getting cool. But i know they want me to clean it just as much because they stand at the side of it yelling at me when it needs to be cleaned out, its to cold for me to deal with that much water.

My dog wants to play with the ducks and chickens, some of the chickens will play back but the ducks are to scared of her but when she is out side they like to stay just out of her reach or follow us when we go for walks.

I get an egg a day from one of my ducks the other 3 girls have not started laying yet. I use her eggs for baking, food is more fluffy

I have a male peking that has a broken leg that has healed(a person at the feed store that i got them from put a water down on top of him, they didnt think he would survive but they gave him to us to give him a chance). He has learned how to use his wings so he flys about an inch off the ground to go pretty much every where since he has a hard time walking but that is a little abnormal.

Good luck with your duckies

A cat will very rarely attack a full grown duck, but keep in mind that ducks are more defenceless then chickens. They can't peck, and most can't really fly at all.
