Thinking about getting a food dehydrator

Mu husband and I were just talking about this yesterday. I see one in my near future

I got 2 cheap dehydrators from craigslist last fall, the round ones, off brands. I thought about buying one, nice new one, but I was trying to dry a windfall of pears and it took 2 to process through them all (and the tomatoes, too). Frankly, I could have used four!

I dehydrate all kinds of stuff...my kids favorite is pineapple crisps... but here's some of what I dehydrate

strawberrys (for cereal), pineapple, banana chips, apples w/ cinnamon, peppers, peas, corn, potatoes chunks and dices, onions, herbs galore, rhubarb, carrots, beans, zuchini, morel mushrooms, tomatoes (to either use in soups or I powder them), tomatoes with garlic salt and basil to snack on, raspberry leaves for tea, clover, celery, coconut, lemons, oranges, plus I also take a pineapple and some strawberries and puree them together then dehydrate those to a crisp (beyond fruit roll up) to a crispy chip and the kids eat this over candy every day and the girls at the office are always asking me to make them some. I also use my dehydrator for drying out my dumplings. I may have forgot something but this gives you an idea of what can be done with a dehydrator.

Chicks4kids-I can't believe you have enough morel mushrooms to dehydrate! If I could still find them there would never be any left-I love those things fried in butter-yum! Also, like the idea of drying my noodles (you called them dumplings). My dd and I use our dehydrators for veggies and fruits and jerky but just hadn't thought of using it for noodles!! You can also use them to dry flowers and herbs, and I make my yogurt in mine-it take only about 4 hours for yogurt.

We got a dehydrator last summer. We LOVE it! Originally got it to make jerky, but haven't gotten around to that yet.

We did dry some apple and peach slices from the local orchard. They were SO good! Made excellent snacks! We also dried some diced peaches, and they were awesome in cereal!

LOL! I know what you mean about the morels....I can't find 'em to save my life, but there's a couple down the road that can go out for an hour and come back with 2-3 lbs. They sell them to me really, really cheap. Yeah, I'd love to fry them all up and gobble them down...but it's nice in the dead of winter when noone is home to rehydrate those wonderful little morsels of heaven and fry some up.

And I dehydrate both the dumplings and noodles in the dehydrator...noodles go in after they dry overnight on the noodle rack I made, then into the dehyrator for peace of mind...dumplings go in immediately
