Thinking of buying house/property. OPINIONS? UPDATE!

Here's the link to the listing. Sometimes it doesn't load right and you may have to refresh the page:

P.S. Taxes are really high here. I'm currently paying over $7,000 on my .43 acre. This property is the same amount, but much larger. I've checked with the town and it is correct. I think the reason is the different school district which doesn't matter because we homeschool.

That really is nice.
Are you really stuck on LI though? $7k is a lot! I am on about the same amount of land and I pay 4K a year in CT. If you are willing to move to another state or area, for $379K and that high tax you may be able to get even more land.
When we were looking at houses we always looked at the bright side of things, and as you settle in you see stuff you never noticed before buying. I wish, we would have gotten a place with more property. In the burbs you think "oh, 2 acres, thats alot." And then you realize the neighbors are still in your face. Because our property goes so far back we actually have more neighbors, two on each side!

Plus once you get more animals, you won't want to stop.....you'll end up like cindiloohoo with eleventy nine!

Good luck!

We've considered moving off the island and we searched and searched, but when it came down to it.....it's just so darn beautiful here! We're not in the suburbs, we're in the Hamptons about 1 hour from Montauk. Beaches on all sides.

The house we're looking at has on two sides town owned "open space" which is all wooded. I'm curious if it were to go up for sale if I could purchase some of it. We'd have 1 acre of our own of wooded land between us and the neighbor. The other neighbor is across the street. 3.5 acres of wooded land on the other side and 2 acres of wooded land behind us.

Like I said, anything 3 acres or more is at least a million dollars in these parts.

Honest opinion.

I would not buy any property that comes with a restriction concerning the use of that property.

You are going to buy a nice chunk of land but right off the bat you can not do anything with over half of it. Excuse me, I bet you are still going to have to pay tax on it.
