So I found guineas on Craigslist and I was wanting to get a few... I have chickens that I keep in a coop and an enclosed 1/2 acre yard. I don't have room in the hen house to house guineas... so I was thinking of keeping them in the barn. I want them to free range so that they can help keep ticks off the other critters.. Any suggestions on keeping them in the barn/surrounding area. They are a week old.

Also any other info would be much appreciated

Guineas are not as domesticated as chickens. No matter how much room you have they will want more. We have 14 acres and our guineas are always at the neighbors!

Spend A LOT of time with your keets every day. By handling them a lot you can tame them like parakeets. Hold them in your lap, let them sit on your shoulder, carry them in a pouch next to your body (or in your bra!)

Teach them that it is safe to eat from your hand you can tame them to the point where they will respond to you and come when called - especially if you shake tasty millet or scratch grain in a plastic cup.

There are a lot of guinea people here at BYC. Just check the forum to find answers to your questions.

Good luck.

Did I get them from you today?? I picked up a few from a lady in Thompsons Station....

Oh Well...... I am also in Maury, near the Trace in Williamsport...
