This is two different issues. Define the issue you choose to deal with. Is it about the city NOT enforcing current code or you just wanting to chang it?

I think you should pursue the enforcing of the current code concerning the deck with no railing, then procede to legally change the code for chicken owners BEFORE you move chickens into town.

You should run for city council!

I always wonder in these cases if the family can even afford to make the changes you are talking about. If I was in a situation where I needed people to be tolerant of me, and someone who wasn't even being affected came along and stirred things up, in the name of "fairness," I would be wondering why they didn't talk to me first, and if they just like being mean. IMHO.

well they may not have ins, but there has to be an ordince of some sort about the mod over the basement, maybe go that route

What does the mod over a basement have to do with changing chicken laws and ordinances?

I don't think they want to get rid of chickens or the neighbors. they want to have chickens in town Right?

I think I have made up my mind on what to do. I am going to help them keep their hens. I will stand up to the city council with them and try and change the laws. The roo needs to go though. I can completely understand why cities have a ban on roosters. Just because I want eggs doesn't mean that I should be able to have a crowing rooster.

(then, if we loose the fight and they still get to keep roos in town, I'm building a coop on my lawn in front of the body shop. Heck, I bet the ordinances says nothing about commercial property!!!!
