I am thinking of building coops for sale to those who may be interested. I am located near Tulsa Oklahoma for those who live nearby. I may even start a package with chickens included with small tractor coops for those in the city.

I was laid off this last year so I am trying to get creative with a new business ideas.

If anybody else has any great ideas for me let me know.

I say go for it! Start with a simple design and see if you can then do something to make it unique. Also, if you can use material efficiently it will cost you less to build. Then you can charge a bit less. I am amazed at how much ready made coops cost. (Of course, I'm amazed at how much everything costs!)

I'd start with an ad in your local paper or thrifty nickel type paper and craigslist to see if the interest is there.

I like your idea of selling coops and chicks!

I think this is a great idea. If you start locally and then eventually you could ship. I buy most everything online now. I get better quality and it costs less including shipping.

My husband is capable of building but he does not always have the time. I have looked at coops but they are not very sturdy for the cost.

Go for it.

Sounds like a good idea. I do wish I could have one of your coops. I badly want a small chicken tractor coop to move around in the yard with my breeding birds in it to keep them separate.

But I am not handy.

Unfortunately I am in West Virginia, so not close to you. Darn.

Good luck and blessings to you.

Yes, I think selling locally would be best. I am later wanting to expand and have a local trading post/market/nursery (of course naturally raised chicken eggs and produce, I would say organic, but I believe you have to have some stringent certification to claim anything to be organic). I used to have a landscaping company in Dallas, moved up here to go back to school and be closer to the husbands family, and have always wanted a nursery. I am finishing up Finals, one more on Friday then I am going to get on this next business venture. Thank you everybody for the much needed moral support!
