Hi, I used to raise quails when I was little. They are cute and ugly little birds. Now I'm thinking of raising from 1000 to 3000 quails for egg laying. I have calculated it cost about 3 cents of feed for quail to lay an egg(in average). Need to know how much you can sell quail eggs for(wholesale, I'm not interested in small scale retail). I've seen quail eggs in my local supermarkets for $2.99 a dozen. Since they are selling them for $2.99/dz they must have got them for about $1/dz. If I can get $1.5/dz I think this business is doable.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
This will be a part time operation. I'm ok with spending like 2~3 hours per day on these birds. I guess the majority of the time spent will be for cleaning, adding feed, water, and packaging eggs(when they start laying). I'm thinking of building the cages myself with the wire shelves from lowes. :).
