Thinking outside the box, breed suggestions~Update pg 8~

JulieNKC -- Thank you! That was a very good suggestion and fits my criteria well. I will look into that option, it may well be the fit we've been looking for.

Punk-a-doodl -- Thank you as well. I agree with the ACD suggestion, and a dog that I have trained a lot and LOVE them. However my husband thinks they are "ugly". To him that's a deal breaker. They are still on the list though! He might just need to get used to having an "ugly" ACD around

How about a poodle? they come it three sizes and they are pretty smart. I used to have one when I was a teenager, was the best dog I had,
I want another one but just haven't been able to get one yet. and they are pretty sporty.

What about a long coated chihuahua? I have them and adore them!! Every one I have ever met has an outstanding personality, not like the regular smooth coated ones.

My DIL has a min pin. It's an awesome dog but boy is it BUSY!! It reminds me of the Jack Russel Terriers I used to have.

Orchid -- that's not a breed I have considered. If I had my choice the Coton may be on my list, but I know my husband would say no to that. Thanks for the suggestion!

annanicole18 -- A Sheltie is a great suggestion!! Not a breed that's been on my radar, but I have always enjoyed the breed. It is now added, thank you

PitterPaws -- I do really like Poodles, and they'd be on my list if it weren't for the grooming required. I don't want the hassle of doing it myself or the expense of paying for it to be done. Thanks though

Do you have to have a show dog?

We have had a sheltie (yes, a little neurotic but DEVOTED to my young children, and pretty adorable), and we've had blue heelers (wonderful dogs, and I think they're beautiful, brilliant, not particularly friendly to strangers) and they're both great dogs, but some of the best dogs we've ever had have been mixed breed shelter or rescue dogs.

Right now we have a two year old husky/blue heeler mix that is a very friendly, very intelligent, very affectionate, a little standoffish with strangers but warms up, and is a wonderful pup.

By the way, I'm partial to the herding breeds, and working dogs in general, as if you couldn't tell.

BASENJI!!

Extremely intelligent. Easy to care for. A little harder to train because they can be stubborn but well worth the work.
