~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

how do you get your humity that high? i have ancona duck egg's due for lockdown on june the 3rd and i'm having a hard time just keeping the humdity at 50%
My humidity goes up that high anyway and always causes problems since i dont hatch ducks. Ive lost quite a few hatching chickens to drowning while trying to get my humidity down because its always so humid here anyway. The average humidity in my house during hatching season is 65% plus in an enclosed incubator, causes big headaches when I hatch. last time I had 56 eggs go into LD and only 22 hatched, even though almost all of them pipped, some even made it to partial zip before and I just couldnt keep it low enough for them. Next season i will have to invest in a dehumidifier.

yeah we have completely the opposite here the humidity doesn't start climbing until the middle of summer despite all the rain. to bad you are so far away i would have given you the one i packed away for the summer.

I must not be meant to have bantams... My cast snuck into my brooder room and killed both my bantam chicks and one of the polish from the Easter HAL...

sorry for your loss

My daughter's crazy cat watches for me to toss scraps in the run & then climbs the fence to join the chickens in scarfing them up. They chickens just stare at him. He won't even try to touch the birds & the birds leave him alone except for the dirty looks for stealing their scraps...lol

yeah my boy Sylvester is like that at breakfast even if he knows he won't like anything on your plate he won't stop bugging you until you give him something or get the broom lol's

My poults are growing big and feathering out-- I have at least one pretty BR and another that runs thru the house calling" I'm lost I'm lost" . . . annoying at 6 am. Got him back to the brooder where EVERYONE else is snuggled in and sleelping!

lol's i had one today but thank god my bantam hen has some type of mothering instinct in her because by the time i could have gotten back to the brooder it would have been too late. When i was changing the baby's water i closed the brooder door or so i thought but a rock was in the way and kept the door open a inch or two just enough for one of the smaller chicks to get through. needless to say when i saw the chick running as fast as it's little legs would take it away from my rooster i thought i was going to have a heart attack.

as i was running to the coop my hen Watson jumped at hellions face with both feet and feathers flying she went Bruce lee on his ***. then she sat on the chick and waited for me to get the it and put it back in the brooder if and when i do cull that rooster Watson has a permanent place in my flock.

I would actually love to try my hand at hatching ducks but I don't want to keep any ducks. They are cute but I just really don't want to mess with the dirty water every day since I don't have a natural or permanent water source. Maybe I can find someone that will let me try hatching a few and just give them back to them if they hatch.

LOL, there must be a method to his madness!! lol My cat occassionally has a face off with a full sized chicken-- he won't back down though . . . .but done' attack either. I don't interfere and they work it out. lol

that so funny the one time one of my grandma's cats tried to attack one of her game bantam crosses the cat jumped and had the bird by the tail feathers and the hen calmly turned her head and pecked Mr.tom right in the eye twice Mr.tom had to get stitches but he never went after a chicken or chick ever again after that

the way I'm thinking about dealing with the water is to have the kiddy swimming pool up on a frame with a dish drain and a large PVC pipe to drain the water into the low area around my fruit trees. but yeah I'm sure their are people that would love a experienced hatcher hatch their eggs then have to buy or make a incubator they are only going to use once or twice

Quote: Humiodity can be managed in diferent ways. I have use AC to bring it down ,a nd use jars of water with sponges poking out; 3-4 if necessary.

Quote: I have muscovy which don't need as much water apparently. Ihave kiddie sandboxes that I fill with water. Even in the winter I will give them not cold water to swim once a week or so. And keep bowls of water for them othewise.

Quote: Oh poor kitty!!!
