~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

Well. Looks like my turkey isn't sick or injured. She's broody I think! Been on the nest all night and all morning! I went and checked on her and she hasn't laid any eggs, just hangin out.

Only thing that makes me wonder is. She seems ok with me reaching in and touching her and her fake eggs. Ive never had a broody anything, and only really read about chicken hens. Is this normal or do they get all crabby and territorial like a chicken usually does when brooding? If I reach under her she just stands up some so I can get to the eggs.

different turkeys act differently.. I have two setting nests now.. one doesn't care if you come pick her up.. she flops back down on the nest and rearranges the eggs to get comfy

the other will rip off your arm and beat you to death with it... and then threaten to rip off the other one as well.....
she reminds me of the killer rabbit from Monty Python.. (except she's not a cute lil bunny...)

Lol. Yeah I have a few chicken hens like that. They aren't broody, just get CRAZY when they r in the nest!! If I wanna collect eggs b4 they leave, I have to wear a glove.
Well, she's still sitting tight. I'm still gonna give her a few days b4 I give her real eggs. Although, idk what I'll give her!! I only have 1 of her eggs that haven't been washed and refrigerated, incubated, or sold. Lol Got about 20 chicken eggs ready to set Friday. Idk if she'd squash baby chicks though? Its a mix of Buff Orp eggs and some Sizzle eggs. My RP hen just moved in 1 1/2 weeks ago and hasn't started laying yet.

that's hard to say.. I have had some broody hens squash everything in sight.. others would be delicate enough to sit on a cupcake and not smoosh it..
I would think that anything buff orp size should be ok though...

Yeah I was thinking even if she didn't squish the eggs, I'm afraid she may squish the little bantam chicks. Probably just give her Buffs, and wait for my Silkies to hatch out their own eggs. Or for my bator to get some room for them. Lol
