~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

No not really. Maybe I checked on the eggs too often or maybe my birds are just getting too old and their eggs aren't as viable as before. I had done a hatch right before the easter hatch and had about a 98% hatch rate. Now almost all of those eggs were from a friend. I am using the same incubator, it is at the same settings, so I am baffled... And disappointed.. However at least I didn't get totally skunked.. I do have some Easter chicks

I love the SS-- how old is the rooster??

I didn't have a great hatch rate 3/8 developed 2/3 have pipped, and I set latish-- incubator was running a tad hot. lol

I love SS also. My Roo is around 5 yes old. A few of my hens are that old also. Eggs start out in the incubator fine, then for some reason quit. They do it at different stages. I did manage to get a SS/frizzle to hatch with the EHAL. But so far that is the only one that made it to hatch. I am trying again with this HAL. I have at least 20 SS eggs in my bator. Here is a pic I took last night of the eggs in my bator.
1000

So as I count the eggs in my bator I count around 65. When all my other eggs are hatched I am going to set more duck eggs.

LOL-- my Almond, a muscovey, is sitting on eggs-- plan to add a few more in the morning when she gets off. SHe just lined her nest and is sticking tight so a good time to add a few from storage.

Maybe the SS need a vitamin/mineral boost-- maybe calfmanna . . . maybe missing a little something in their feed . . . ?

I collected a good number of SS eggs, but cleaned them for eating. Trying to get DH to take a pic as they are just lovely-- I love eggs--- med, round and pale pink/tan. Girls are voracious scavengers and free rangers. Great girls.

I will have to try giving them some vitamins and see if it makes a difference. My girls do great scaveging also.

Hey, is this thread always this quiet? Or is it just because of easter?

Quote: Partly Easter, partly that the Easter Hatch athon has really collided with CDM. Usually not such an over lap. It is an Easter timing thing. lol
Yes, next year will be more like the first year, all of us trying to finish hatches, clean incubators and reset.

How are the turkey's laying? I may be begging for some after this hatch.

Please add me. I just set my first duck eggs today. I know I will be late hatching but I just finished my Easter Hatch, cleaned my incubator, and set my 38 duck eggs from my backyard mix of ducks. I have been collecting these eggs for a while from two ducks but let's see what they will produce.
