my husband told me I spend too much time turning eggs.. i tried to argue the point.. so he "did the math"...

right now I hand turn eggs for 2 hours every day.. he decided to go conservative and base it on a lot less than that to make up for days when I was a kid and in school (but still turning eggs before and after school).. or the two weeks every so often that I take off from hatching... and then again there are the months that I hatch a whole lot more and spend way more than two hours turning eggs every day... anyway.. he came up with this...

almost 2.5 years of my life has been spent just turning eggs....

I really hope his math is wrong.. cause that's just depressing....

it makes me wonder what the actual amount would be since he based it on so much less...
and that's not including the hours spent tending to brooders.. cleaning coops.. feeding birds......

dayum.. I need a life

How many can she cover?
Quote: They way I always do eggs under any broody is I stuff them under her until they begin popping back out, take away the ones that are out & take back 2 more for good measure. Every hen can fit a different number of eggs depending on her size, breed, age, etc.

Okay, I filled my brinsea incubator to the max with turkey eggs and still had some left to set, so I put them in my "emergency bator" which is a still air Little Giant. The Little Giant thermometer is reading 106 F (laying ontop of eggs) and my brinsea spot check thermometer is reading 97.1 F (probe is next to an egg, leveled to the top of them). Which thermometer do I trust?! It's such a big variation.
Never trust the built in thermometers. The 1 in my FI bator reads 15F LOW. If I were to trust it my eggs would NEVER even develop. Always use another thermometer & hygrometer.

Quote: It's not, they will just hatch late. This HAL is very flexible on dates, so give that girl her eggs!!!

as many as will fit under her fluffy butt!

lol.. yeah .. it varies.. size of hen and size of eggs...

Well I marked all the eggs under her and added today's duck egg and 4 turkey Eggs from my Slate girl. Total 6 Duck, 4 turkey, 1 goose that is either infertile or x a duck or turkey. Mama is a 2 yr old Chinese that lays eggs bigger than the turkey. They are huge.

Ummmm...I know the feeling

I just set my eggs. took forever because I had to rearrange all the eggs in my bator. I took the auto turner out, marked all the eggs a certain color according to what eggs are due to hatch what day(I stagger hatches) mared an X and an O on each egg and then played egg tetris lol.

I set 24 BR turkey eggs and 24 chicken eggs(they are a week early I know).

I now have a total of 76 eggs in a bator meant for 42

I have never done that before. Im REALLY nervous about this.

these are the eggs I set for this hatch

and this is my incubator fully loaded
