~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

my husband told me I spend too much time turning eggs.. i tried to argue the point.. so he "did the math"...

right now I hand turn eggs for 2 hours every day.. he decided to go conservative and base it on a lot less than that to make up for days when I was a kid and in school (but still turning eggs before and after school).. or the two weeks every so often that I take off from hatching... and then again there are the months that I hatch a whole lot more and spend way more than two hours turning eggs every day... anyway.. he came up with this...

almost 2.5 years of my life has been spent just turning eggs....

I really hope his math is wrong.. cause that's just depressing....

it makes me wonder what the actual amount would be since he based it on so much less...
and that's not including the hours spent tending to brooders.. cleaning coops.. feeding birds......

dayum.. I need a life

Oh but you have such a wonderful life coaxing little feathered velociraptors to hatch. lol
IT's way better than commuting to work 2 hours a day.

I just set my eggs. took forever because I had to rearrange all the eggs in my bator. I took the auto turner out, marked all the eggs a certain color according to what eggs are due to hatch what day(I stagger hatches) mared an X and an O on each egg and then played egg tetris lol.

I set 24 BR turkey eggs and 24 chicken eggs(they are a week early I know).

I now have a total of 76 eggs in a bator meant for 42

I have never done that before. Im REALLY nervous about this.

these are the eggs I set for this hatch

and this is my incubator fully loaded

Beautiful. BUt I do see room for a few more. lol It should work, just keep moving the locations top to bottom every couple of days. ANd at that time place eggs back in carton carefully, then put back in reverse order been there done that in my homemade one. PS--there is only 4 doz in the top pic, how did the multiply for the lower pic??

Quote: Tell they are for sale-- and get a straight jacket for her if need be.

I think I'll go with the classic Houdini. I think you can get out of those on occasion.

Very classic!!

The 4 dozen in the first pic is what I set today for this hatch(mins the one in the lid I dropped it). The other eggs were what I set already for the Easter hatch.

I think I have a little more room also lol. I just did a late lockup for the birds and found 1 last turkey egg. That's getting tossed in tonight also.

So 25 BR eggs set and 24 early chicken eggs.

Well, I guess, since SCG is AWOL this year, I will have to step up and take Straight Jacket orders. Okay, Chooks gets the Dorothy version, and Jess gets a Camo Kevlar with steel trauma plates (very masculine.) Mimddh is getting a plain white version that will never go out of style.

Anyone else? Not only will they keep you from messing with the bator, but it will give illustration to those who think we are crazy for setting so many eggs!

Wisher, Have you checked your eggs for movement? I have seen hens get kicked off a nest for hours and the eggs get pretty low in temp and still hatch out most of them. Keeping fingers crossed for ya!

Mine is blue and brown and keeps my hands in my pockets since I can use them any other way.

I was definitely going to go for something like purple stripes, but really why do I want a jacket? I like to mess with the bator! I just need a pin that says, I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane!'

Is this an internal pip for my goose?

It's in the highest part of the air cell and it's only day 26.

Sometimes there's shadows in the air cell just before internal pipping as they get into position. My goose eggs have always hatched on day 28 and 29. So it looks good! Look for rhythmic movement, like breathing. Most times you can see the beak in the air space but you usually can observe the rhythm of their breathing. And of course, peeping is telltale sign of internal pip. Good luck! I love love love hatching geese :)
