The fluid should be yellow, straw, like a lager (beer) and fairly clear.
Cloudy fluid could indicate bacterial peritonitis.
Green fluid means bile is present – caused by ruptured bowl or perforated bile duct.
Bloody fluid could mean trauma, malignancy or pancreatitis.
Milky could indicate chyle from the intestinal lymphatics and occurs when lymphatic vessels rupture.
