THIRD LEG ON CHICK

My avian vet appointment was only 150 dollars because Clover was "livestock" I wonder if you could find one in your area to do the same!
one thing you and OP can look into is some people have had success with a birth control implant meant for dogs, it would stop you hens from producing and laying egg, from what I have found from what other people have said about it they eventually have to get a new one as it wears off eventually, I saw other people talking about it as a way of keeping there roosters from learning to crow as it also works as a birth control for males. (would need to do it when the rooster is young though before it learns to crow.)
edit: its either an implant or a shot I cant quite remember its been a while since I read about it.)
edit again after a little research the implant is called deslorelin. and I found an article from some one that says they used it in their hen to stop her from laying eggs. https://medium.com/creatures/my-pet-chicken-has-a-birth-control-implant-691cc339e67b

Giving birth control easiest,best answer.
If you could ask her,I’m sure she would want to live.
She may not be perfect, but I doubt she’s in misery.
Help her live, not everything has to be expensive to be important.Antibiotics will help any infection from egg bound ,applied early.I’ve done it.She may not develope eggs at all.
Hormone management would be easy,so no eggs.

I do not personally have experience with this, but I can tell you of the cases I've read about over the years.

A few people have had chicks like this. I believe 2 of them ended up being hens. The issue is, if the chick you have is a hen, she may not ever be able to lay eggs properly and will become eggbound, or lay internally.

The deformity often includes a partial hip bone/extra bit of bone where the leg forms and it can disrupt egg laying. If it's a rooster, it's likely it will just live a normal life with an extra leg.

I hope this helps, and hopefully some others can give you more information as well!
Either sex, I wouldn’t want it to reproduce in case it’s genetic. 🤔

If it were my chick I'd amputate the leg leaving just a bit of the knuckle to try & prevent it from bleeding profusely & if it bled much I'd sprinkle a generous of flour on it to coagulate the blood more quickly. The upper end of the Metatarsus is where I'd clip it. If taken to a vet then more of the leg could be removed safely & then have it vent sexed. Your chick would have a better chance of having a normal more healthier life, imo, if it was farther away from the vent & might have a better chance of laying eggs with no problem.

The only cause for this that I've ever heard about is if someone breeds chickens with close bloodlines, such as sister-brother, half-sister-half-brother, father-daughter, mother-son, etc.
Even if you bought it there is still a chance I happened at the hatchery. This might not be the case, there could be some other genetic issue but at the time I don't know any other possibilities. I really hope that the chick ends up okay.
