Third time around Tampa Bay Area Chicken Swap - Saturday, January 28th

Quote:
Originally from St. Pete here! It's where I grew up. Will return to settle down soon. Any good feed stores there other than park feed?

There is Neeld-Gordon (sp?) if you want Manna Pro feed or cracked corn. That's all they really have for chickens. I alternate between Park Feed and them, as I buy the feed at Neeld-Gordon and the rest at Park. The guys there are so nice and helpful.

I posted this question on the Florida thread, but am posting here, too, just in case the folks closer to me didn't see it:

I am working on building an aviary, and I want to use 5ft wide hardware cloth. I can order a 100 foot roll for a decent price ($180) and was wondering if anyone would like to split the order, or even if three people want to go in on it, it would still be 33 feet each- which is what I need.

OR does anyone know of anywhere around Tampa Bay that sells 5 ft wide rolls of hardware cloth?

I'm getting excited about the swap! I think we'll have a great turn out, and am so looking forward to meeting everyone!

I plan on being there on April 2nd. will anyone have any americaunas/EE, white egg layers, and maybe Marans that are sexed pullets? I am very interested in some of those. along with maybe some buff orpingtons, blue laced red wyandottes, red or black sexlinks, etc...just curious with who and what may be there. LOL. I am hoping i will see the sex of st run chicks i have now by then so i can get rid of any roosters.

I will have the sexed ones that should include some EE's and possibly Marans. Not sure yet (I'm selling on behalf of someone else, and don't know what she has gotten yet). Hopefully Nava will have the BLRW, and I don't know about orpingtons and sexlinks. Wayne may possibly have Orps. I'll call him and find out. I've tried to list on here as I get people calling and e-mailing what they are looking for and what they are bringing, so just read from about halfway back. It's looking like we'll have a great turn out!

I am a native St. Pete but live in WA now. I LOVE seeing this thread. Chickens in St. Pete - I love it!!! When I was home last spring, my friends all looked at me like I was nuts when I told them I was getting chickens out here. So keep up the good work at raising public awareness!

Have you gotten the word out to any barns? There used to be one on 62nd Ave on the way to Pinellas Park and there are Foxwood Farms and Serendipity Farms in Pinellas Park. Also the Pinellas County Extension. http://pinellas.ifas.ufl.edu/index.shtml

Good
luck - have a great swap. I hope you all have a great turnout.

Tell your friends, chknmomma! Chickens in St.Pete is all the rage!
It's funny you mentioned a farm on 62nd ave. I was just driving down 62nd ave a few weeks ago thinking, "didn't I see a sign off here somewhere for a farm - with a rooster or something on it?" I will look up those two farms - thanks. I have Martin Farms promoting it for me, but that was the only farm I knew of around here with chickens. I've got a bunch of people that live outside Pinellas that saw the Craig's list posting that are coming with chicks, plus the BYC'rs, of course.
