OK i only got silkies for broodies and I lost one this summer and the other when she's laying, literally jumps out of the box half way into laying. She has fertile eggs because I'v ehatched them out and she's with a roo, but she didn't stand in line for boodiness.

I'm certain it was the broody meatie (that quit) and the SF that gave the silkie the idea.

UUUUUGGHHH, I FEELYOUR PAIN.
My last laying hen just pancaked. (my sister's way of saying broody). That leaves 2 miserable roos, 4 little chicks, and about 34 eggs!!!

The last one I thought would never go broody, her nest was hijacked TWICE and now she's only on 3 miserable eggs. But who am I to take her off? Her nest was hijacked TWICE!!

I've decided to just replace all my nestboxes with broody crates and go with the flow.
