We are buying a new fence box for the goats..My wife is fencing in a few new acres and its gonna take a good box to braze the weeds..I was looking at a large box that is rated for heavy wet weeds but its 2 joules and 10,000 volts in a 2 mile range..Getting progressively weaker after that (down to about 4,000 at 50 miles or so)..It takes a good 4,000-6,000 volt rating to keep thick haired stubborn goats from crawling thru/under often times..heres my worry..
Ive had a small fence box (2-mile) only rated at about 2,000 volts kill small birds and a large blacksnake before when they got on the fence and grounded themselves..Now this was a "constant" box while the large one is a 1-second pulsing box..
Im not an electrician..I myself have been hit with 50,000 volt taser shields (training) and while it hurt I couldent see it killing anything..Ive also been in more than my share of electric fences ..
Some of our pultry is free ranging..Most notably the guineas..I dont want a box that will end up killing my guineas when they walk head first into the bottom strand....
Am I worrying for nothing? What do you think?
