Man I have 4 kids of my own, 18 down to 10. They have the Halo games, and others, but we have NEVER had any problems out of them about playing them or anything else. We have rules and have always had rules and thats just the way it has been. Sounds like this guy just wasnt used to being told NO and made to do as he was told.
Just my opinion:)

The ending the kid told his father he is sorry and wants to come back home. Now his sis wants him back at home to.

The whole family must be weird then, because if my brother killed my mom and tried to kill my dad... Let me tell ya, I wouldn't want to see him ever again. I'd probably hate him more than anything in the world.

This is really such a sad situation. But, as most have said, it WASN'T the game. If it wasn't this something else could have caused him to snap.....a curfew, a friend they didn't approve of, etc. Banning this type of game because they can cause a crazy person to snap would be like banning little girls from wearing shorts in the Summer because it can cause a perv to attack them.

Amen! That was point with music and magazines too. the disturbed will always find something to trigger them and sensorship is not the way to go.

Your just like me. I love most rate M games except halo 3. I think COD is worse then halo.

I think it all depends on the kid. My son has been playing COD since he was 7 yrs old. He also plays Halo. AND...we let him play cops and robbers, and cowboys and indians. We had to explain to him why he cant even draw a picture of a gun at school...and he understands. He doesnt get to sit infront of a game box all day and play...he has chores, and other activities, and he has to earn time on the games systems. We dont own guns, but both sets of his grandparents do, and my parents own a bullet company. He has been at gun shows since the time he was born, and he has beed through gun saftey classes. It all depends on the kid (or grown up) and that kid in the OP had other problems also.

I wonder if the perception of the country (US) becoming more violent because of a changing culture or violent games is accurate - I have been lead to believe that violent crimes in most areas is on the decline. Although, It is very easy to turn on the computer or cable and hear every detail about a murder 3000 miles away (and they are out of the ordinary and strange, that is what makes them somehow newsworthy over the hundreds of other murders) senseless crime has always been around and will continue after we’re gone (did Lizzie Borden, Berkowitz, or ... play Halo or something like it?) .

There are of course much more worthwhile activities besides video games that could better a person’s life or that of others, but I don’t have to or get to decide that (which is lucky for all of us).

Another thing that was brought up (not exactly sure why, have to read more of the thread), I also think there should be one age of majority 16,18,21, or even older, whatever, just pick one. It is silly that someone somehow has their head on enough to choose the leader of the free world, but not have a beer.

Yes, and this is why we NEED a return to actual parenting. Too many kids grow up in households where they raise themselves. I am willing to bet this kid's parents already KNEW he had problems but didn't want to admit it to the point of seeking help. There is no way you go from being perfectly normal to killing your parents overnight.

Oh this is all cr*p. That kid had anger issue. Taking away his game was
just a trigger.

Halo, by the way, is a game about saving the earth from aliens. Yes
it is violent. Me and my 8 year old have completed Halo 1, 2 and 3.
We did it together.

That kid was a time bomb waiting to go off. Blaming a video game is
simplistic, especially Halo.

Human history is full of violence. The reality is that up to 40 years
ago most 17 year olds were getting ready to join the military to do real
battle.
