We're still going up on the thermometer...tomorrow will be a mere 91* and then Thursday a mild 94* and then it goes back up for triple digits for several days. Sunday is supposed to be 107*. It's 103* now.

If it weren't for chest freezers and tricks for keeping chickens cool , they'd all be dead in this madness.

I'm going to have to get several bags of apples and toss them in the freezer for Friday, and I'll be trying to figure out how to sew together big canvas drop cloths for shade if I can't find a good source for cheap shadecloth.

Having just moved my entire breeding facility, I have to start over with the planned shade. Each of the coops is shaded, but I'll have to plant honeysuckle and grapes up the fencing for the future. It makes a huge difference- the coops are on the S side of the woods, so no shade for the runs. Grapes grow quickly and can be trained to arch over the run, giving shade and fruit. Honeysuckle grows despite all evil weather here, and smells fabulous when the spring rains are trying to make runs stink.

Stay cool, everyone!

The worst part is I hear the drought conditions and heat are destroying a lot of crops. Farmers are selling off their herds because they can't feed them. We really need all this right now.

How bad would this be for cattle farmers? Would we be affected to pay very high beef prices at the store?

Wow! I'm sweating just reading your forecast! We've been in the lower 90s here in Ohio, and the humidity is HORRIBLE! Is it humid in Texas?
