I just realized that Dreamworks' "The Prince of Egypt" has the most violent beginning of any children's movie I have ever seen in my life.... I mean, yeah, historically accurate, but really??

I dunno, am I just weird?

Never thought about it before. Plus, it's not really that historically accurate for most of the movie.

That IS actually a little disturbing now that I think about it.

You should read the original "Grimm's fairy tales", talk about violence and disturbing!

I have always thought & wondered why but all fairytales are somewhat violent. Humpty Dumpty fall off/ Jack & Jill & jack fell down, broke his crown, etc ???

a lot of kids actually love that stuff, at least in stories. Not sure i'd want some of the more horrific stuff depicted for them in a movie though.

Well, typically humans crave violence. Just think about it.

Since it did depict a Biblical story, I would much rather it be as authentic as possible and not sugar coated. Since most kids are visual learners (in general) they really pick up on stories they see in movies, so why not?

Fairy Tales were meant to scare good behavior into kids...

The modern versions to fairy tales?

"Don't go out in the rain, you will get a deadly cold"
"Don't go out in the street, you will get hit by a car"

Think about deadly virus eating up a person from the inside out...
or an auto accident where someone is killed...
those in the mind of a child can be very gross

The question is, how to you teach the gruesome lessons of life without making your kids numb to them, or afraid of them?

Which leads me to one more question-why does mankind have to be violent? I have trouble killing anything. The only power I desire is power over myself.
