This is a rooster right?

No, it doesn't necassarily mean you can't keep them! Roos make great pets!
It all depends on where you live.. The zoning laws, that kind of thing.
They are cuties, by the way!

My pullets get puffed up and bump chests. It's just what they do, doesn't mean much unless they hurt each other. I'm guessing it's the same with roos. Hope you can keep them. They're cute.

My vote is roosters. Do you have any hens?
The roosters will probably fight until one wins and is the boss. Some fight more than other breeds, so you will just have to watch and see what happens. Do they have plenty of room to run? The one getting beat upon needs to be able to make a hasty retreat.

No I don't have any hens, it's just those two. I live in San Antonio, Texas and everything I've read points toward being able to keep roosters so I'm pretty sure we'll keep them. I was just wondering if I they can live together or do I have to get rid of one. They live in a two dog crates put together right now because we are in the process of moving into a house. My dad was going to build a coop for them when we move in which should be in less than two weeks, but I was wondering if it's possible to keep them as house pets and just let them out every so often? This way the neighbors won't be bothered all the time

My sister doesn't believe the splash is a rooster and says "tail feathers don't mean anything" and "if she was a rooster she would have a bigger comb at her age". she has never owned chickens but goes on here a lot so she thinks she knows something. I don't pretend like I know anything about them, because I don't, which is why I'm asking others on here. Thanks guys for all your help

Being raised together, they'll get along for the most part, but if/when you do get any pullets, you'll likely see them fight some to confirm dominance. They won't get brutal, most likely, and I think the dark one is already dominant if he's crowing.

Definitely a pair of boys, though.

I would say they are both roos, and of course being a guy myself, I would say you need to get them a few hens.....

my mom said we won't be getting anymore chickens and she's asking what makes you think the splash is a rooster?
my sister said she doesn't have a comb at all so she's not a rooster

It may be a late maturing rooster...not all roos created equal LOL!

If you can see the pointed V;s in neck feathers and V's ends of their tail feathers , you can be sure it is a rooster.

I feel like the odd person out here, but I would hold off on calling the splash a roo. Those tail feathers ARE a little curvy, but I am not seeing the v's? Would take a crow to convince me!
