This is crazy!

I just picked up month old chicks for 8.00 each from a hobbyist. Looks like I ended up with 3 roos. That's the risk you take but at 8 each, its a chance ill take. They have another clutch that's hatching now.....so maybe ill pick up 3 more and try for hens, lol!

**editted to add that my daughter just reminded me that they were 5.00 each, oops!

have to agree in a way with the OP.
You can buy yearling goldens for $40- $50 all day old.
with these you know you have a pair, they are well started
you dont have 6 months of feed in them to get them to the same age, you dont have to brood them, etc
You have a ready to go pair for the same price.
Yes you can sex these if you know what you are looking at, I know, but many dont know how, or if they are to be shipped, you just get what they have.

BUT like Tony said too, in different places, birds sell for different money. Seems on these, impatient folks have driven the egg and chick price way up. Just look at eggs when they are on ebay. 6 RG eggs going for $10 is crazy to me, but at that average, a chick would be worth $20...so why are yearlings still just selling for $20 each???? dont know, but that's the average market price for them, PERIOD....I know some sell them for hundreds, but they are the exceptions not the rule. Some have imports, that's a totally different horse there
But For my money, on plain jane U.S. goldens I'll go with yearlings for the same price all day long.
