was she broody? Ive had a hen sit right where she poops and gets it all over her chest and bottom half and it is rancid! putrid! Im feeling sick just thinking of that stench!

She has done it twice before because she wont leave the nest!

I am so tired of all these broody's only 2 out of 25 have left the nest with their hatch , i have had to pull the chicks from all the rest and i don't want any more chicks, I pull all the eggs and then they go off and hide a nest some where like she did or just take up space in the boxes with nothing under them waiting for another hen to lay an egg so they can move to that nest

i got over 200 coming up from my last hatch that i am keeping for food and eggs, I am going thru 125 pounds a day even with free ranging and the roos are still to small to process.

Thank you all for the help, now can anyone tell me how to clean out the smell from my nose?

PS i figured the hen thought was her when i left for church was her look-alike sister, thats why i thought she got into something while i was gone.

I knew it had to be what I thought only because I JUST dealt with that and the smell in my nose still lingers! Vicks vapor rub! on the tip of nose

Sounds really awful - My Bertha wouldn;t leave her nest to poo at all. When the last chick that was sick was taken from her - (It was a cull guts on outside ) She got off the other chicks made it to the ramp outside the door and exploded with poo everywhere and it stank and splashed all up my leg! I really didn;t know a hen could smell so bad or even keep poo inside for like days even maybe a week!

I think x2 vapour rub - the smell of Decomp does unfortunatly linger and it takes time to get rid of it. But once you smelt it you sure don;t forget it!

I do not have any vicks, haven't had a cold in 30 years but i do have bengay so i am going to give that a shot ,i like the smell of that anyway..

Note to self, never put bengay on nose, i got a tickle and wiped my nose without thinking and touched my eye, oh how it burns,

Yea well ya are a little late my friend.

Now note to self, don't ride the 4-wheeler in the woods with one eye full of bengay, i got hit in the head by a branch when i misjudged it's height.

Or i should say just stay on the trail ya dummy

But you are right i can't see the smelly hen or anything else cause now my other eye is messed up too.
