I ordered a bantam assortment from Ideal Poultry about 2 months ago. I asked around here to find out the breeds of my chickens but, some weren't I.Ded.
I e-mailed Ideal about one of my possibly Cochin chicks and they told me it was a BARRED COCHIN! Is this a barred cochin?
I have no idea really but it really doesn't look barred. Help?

I have a barred Cochin from Ideal. She is a year old now, but I don't remember her looking like that. Her barring didn't show up until later. Seems like there is an awful lot of white in that one.

It doesn't seem to have a single comb--Cochins have singles. And the barring is like what you get in a black sexlink cockerel. Seems to be a male, too. To me, that looks like some mixed breed, it really does. No idea, but a pure barred Cochin is not what I'd guess.

Maybe a silver laced cochin??? looks to have some lacing...cant see the comb too well though?? Its pretty though

looks a bit like a possum in the chicky pic. :lol
I think its a beautiful chick, whatever the breed.

Pretty, pretty, pretty.... but that is not really barring -- it's more pencil-tipped or silver laced. It does have kind of a cochin pullet head. In that shot it's kind of stretched out, so I don't see much of a bustle forming... It's a pretty chick... but I wouldn't say "barred" either. Do you know if it's a pullet or a roo?

It's probably a roo, because now it's comb has grown a lot bigger than it's siblings. It is a single comb, just wasn't all that developed until about a week ago.
Could Ideal have given me a mixed chick?
