Hi everyone! Mike and I (Teresa) are new to chicken farming. I had raise several chickens and guineas over 30 years ago, looking forward to enjoying them again. We are also on Backyard herds and have been for a few years.
We purchased our place here in Tennessee 4 plus years ago, 2013. Took us 3 1/2 years to get the place fixed up, cleaned up and finally Moved here in June 2016. Still work to be done, more clean up, fencing building shelters. Finally ready to start so purchased 10 ewe sheep in Nov. all expecting, had 12 lambs between Dec and Jan. More work more building....
Finally finished our chicken area a couple weeks ago. Purchased chickens 1 week ago. We now have 4 RIR hens and a beautiful RIR rooster. Also 4-8 week old Delaware hens and a rooster and 3 Buff Orpington hens. A few days ago we picked up 6 more week old B O chicks and 3 Artisan Gold Turkey chicks.
Also have 20 + duck eggs (neighbors have duck laying eggs all over the place) in an incubator.
So in other words, JUMPED IN WITH BOTH FEET ...lol
We also have 3 dogs Pyrenees that stays with the sheep an Aussie and a Border Collie.
It has been a lot of work but we are really enjoying it so far.
Just sorry we had to wait until so late in life to live our dream.
When and if we ever get everything else done that we want to do, finished.
We are hoping to get some wood working done. Mike makes some beautiful stuff, I love to help and enjoy learning.
I also dabble in crafts and refinishing/re-purposing.
We also both love to cook, and we try to have no limits, Asian, Vietnamese, Greek, Indian. But Mikes all
time favorite is to smoke Ribs and Pork Butt.
Well I think that about sums it up, hope you enjoy the read.
