Since a predator attack a weekend ago, I have two roosters outside in the main flock. One calls almost incessantly, but that's just him.
The other, a little serama roo, has taken to keeping the 11 remaining hens very close to the coop. If they stray too far and he sees this, he chases them toward the coop! They come back and he goes back to scratch and pick and dust bath-type stuff. I watched him for almost an hour (yes, I did. Yes, really, it was about an hour)... and this behaviour continued. It was kind of neat.
Once the hens stayed close, both the crowing roo and the herding roo ceased their behaviour.
