YAY! Someone else on my side!

I got 18 eggs total but only ONE hatch! And on day 23 I'm not positive about the others

Oh well, I suppose one is better than none.

Congrats on the one. I'm waiting on some eggs a dear friend is sending. I'll be slipping them under my latest broody...and anyone else that's gone broody by the time they get here.

Oh, I'm sure you will have no problem with more broodies

How are your roosters coping with no hens? I just had one that tried to mount my knee lol. Instinct kicked in and I flung him maybe 2 metres backwards and flapping? Talk about girl power. I'd like to see any GUY who would do tht
tongue2.gif
On second thoughts, I almost would have even let him, I'd like to see if he was big in the place that counts. Maybe he was the reason why I got such a cr@p hatch rate........

Roosters don't have "parts." It ain't the size of the ..... well, size of ... what they use... has absolutely no bearing, because there isn't any There, there.

It's in the rooster juice. Errr, so to speak.

Size does not matter.

Technique does. As already posted roosters don't have penises. Making contact, i.e., cloacal contact results in sperm transfer. Clumsy, overly small(body size), overly large, overly fluffy, inexperienced roosters may have difficulty making contact. Back on topic: Any more gone broody?

Grrrr Yes. gritsar cursed me as well. I've got a spash Cochin who just got done raising a bunch of babies in September glued to a nest again. Last time I gave her day old babies to raise and that seemed to keep her happy. She did sit on an EMPTY nest for a month, so it's not like she missed out on all the work.

I can't believe its a good time to have babies, but the 3 eggs she has were fresh laid yesterday so not likely frozen at all. I might let her keep them. She's got her own egg, a lovely blue ameraucana egg and a mystery brown one, probably from one of the black sexlinks.

Ah well, it's winter right? Nothing better for her to do. After she chomped my knuckles I sat and pondered how funny this actually is

Shoot, mine can't go broody. Most of them aren't back to laying yet. 12 hens and I'm getting 2-3 eggs a day.

For some strange reason, my Marans that had started back up have quit laying again. Don't they understand I have customers waiting for their eggs?

I wasn't the curser, I am the cursee! For whom to blame I suggest you look for another BYCer that has posted on this thread. I won't name names, but I'll give you a hint - starts with a "sour" and ends with a "land".

You know last night I was lying in bed thinking - yes, I frequently think about chickens when trying to sleep (better than counting sheep) - I was thinking how it is that I've never seen either of my two SS in a nestbox. I know they must be laying, because I once got 14 eggs outta the possible 14 pullets, but I have never actually seen those two in the boxes.
So what do I see when I open up their coop this morning? Both SS on nestboxes.

They're probably broody

Impy forthwith proclaims that all broodiness shall henceforth be known as:

"The Gritsar Curse"

Impy- It shall be a plague upon the land
