This is two question question

stroke your hand down her back and give a little squeeze just behind the ribs, in front of the tail. If she squats and lifts her tail I would think she might be getting ready to lay soon. If she ducks and tries to just slither out from under your hand and walk away, less likely to lay soon. I have six BBS marans, and the biggest hen with the reddest comb was last to lay. The splash girl still doesn't have an actual red comb and has been laying for two weeks. Go figure. They were clutchmates.
 
I just notice them squatting this morning. And NO I don't want her broody.
