This is what a raccoon can do to wire

LOL Hearthnsoul!

I personally don't find 14 gauge stuff very strong. 12 seems to be so much stronger, but its really hard to find.
I'm starting to feel unsafe no matter what!

Raccoons are really strong, so are River Otters and they are 6 feet long! River Otters around here have killed big dogs when cornered.

WOW!!! Strong coon. You need a chicken fort KNOX when you live on the creek like I do. My DH built me a new coop. Welded it together. I think a bear could still get in in tho. Thank goodness we dont have those here. What we wont do for our chickens. I have 3 baby hawks hanging out in my yard now. OH Joy!!!

not to dredge up a topic that has been beaten to death... but wowza! this makes the case for shooting the coon and NOT trying to let it out! can you imagine if that thing would have come back on someone who was trying to 'have a heart' and not just dispatch it??!!?

that could have been me... yikes!!!!

lets now return to making the coon out to be like a superhero like....... the incredible hulk!!! wow!

WOW I think you might have had a faulty wire issue there too. How big was the coon? Being a trapper nothing ever suprises me but that is almost unbelievable. Coon are strong yes but never seen one do something like that to welded wire.

Actually, no faulty wire. Typical hav-a-hart trap that is reasonably new and (was) in perfect shape. We (at animal control) have a dozen of these traps. I don't know how he did it. I think the people that had our trap on loan were trying to catch feral cats. The coon was incidental and was turned loose on site I believe. It was in town and no chickens around.
