I am hoping to start over again for sure!!!! I am just waiting on the insurance company to be able to see just what kind of start I will e able to have LOL!!! I am hoping they do right and handle it, God knows I pay enough every month for sure.

Really, this is my worst nightmare. I have a quartz heater in my portable now. The oil/electric one apparently burned the electric cord right through. I was EXTREMELY lucky that it did not come to what you experienced.

I am guessing that because it was soooo cold the heater just went full blast and got too hot. This may be what happened to you all.

The quartz one, they are HARD to find, has a cutoff if it is overturned and a safety caution if the wattage is too great and it turns itself off.

I fear it will turn off on a really cold night, so I installed a electric temperature monitor and a red light comes on in the window if the space gets below 40 degrees.

After thinking about it overnight, I've decided to go back to my propane heater for the chicken pen- it's a grill size cylinder with a "Mr. Heater" attached to the valve. I don't put in in a closed coop, just outside. I changed the batteries in the in the house alarms, and tested them. And as soon as I get the cats off the ceiling, I'm checking every oil filled radiator around for any damage to cords and switches.

It's unfortunate that this disaster is what it took for me to think about my "system" of heating.

Hope the insurance co. gets it together fast.
