This is why I detest modern technology....

Since smart phones can be compromised like a computer, I don’t do financial transactions or keep financial info on my phone.

I don't keep financial info on my smartphone either. From what I understand, the mobile app for checking deposits does not keep any information on the phone. It only scans the checks and sends them to the bank. If I want to get a copy of the transaction, I have to access their website. I don't have a copy of my deposit on my phone, in memory or storage, as far as I can tell. Anyway, the bank says that the mobile app is more secure than the old way of scanning checks at home and uploading them to the bank. With my scanner, there was always a saved copy of the scanned check on my computer.

Like I said, the smartphone mobile app for depositing checks is actually easier and faster than the old method. So that is one thing I actually am glad about. Since I live out in the country, using the mobile app is much faster and easier than driving into town to make a deposit at a local bank. So that is one new tech tool that I do not detest.

Yeah, I don't see that happening at all. We now live in a society where you can be spoon fed the flavor of news you want to hear. Many people I know believe all news is fake news if they don't like what they hear. I can't even talk to some close family members because they believe garbage on Facebook rather than what is reported on our main stream news services.

I used to be a public school teacher, for about 6 years, and I cannot imagine anyone being allowed to even challenge the students to think about the news they consume. It seems everything in our schools today is subject to political out lash and I am glad I'm no longer subject to that. The teachers that I know still in the system tell me it's like walking on egg shells everyday.

I have been watching the Facebook whistleblowers coming forward and explaining how their system feeds you more and more of the content you like - even if it's all false. Facebook makes money keeping people on their service making clicks, not by telling the truth. So they don't care if they are spreading propaganda if they are making money on it.
I've been a teacher for 15 years and involved in education professionally for an additional 14. My colleagues and I absolutely challenge them about news. In fact, it is in the common core standards that we are required to do just that. But even before the CCSS were adopted, we did that. I don't walk on eggshells in my classroom.

I only taught for 6 years, K-8, and that was about 15 years ago that I left. So I only hear stories from people I know that are still in the teaching profession. It's good to hear that you are challenging your students about the news and that you are not walking on eggshells.

There was just too much stuff going on at my school district, so I left and became an RN. It was a better option for me, but I had great respect for my fellow teachers. Teaching is a tough job and I think teachers should be paid better. I doubled my salary on my job as a nurse with just a 2 year tech degree and my RN license. It was not all glamour, but it paid better. Now, I'm more or less retired and enjoying it.

Good for you! I really like my current school/position. I do alright for myself salary-wise. I don't complain about my pay. Nurses are everything, imo. My ex is a doctor. The way he talked about nurses was appalling. I know better.

That's too bad. I worked with some great doctors, but I know that some doctors are difficult to work with. In my case, us nurses worked with our patients for 10 hour shifts every day. The doctor might only see the patient for 10 mins every week. So our doctors valued our input as nurses. It took teamwork for better outcomes. I don't think I could work with a doctor who did not value my input. I'm glad I was never in that position.

Color me paranoid. 😂

At retirement, I elected to close my military credit union accounts in favor of a local CU. USAA is good for auto insurance. My insurance guy couldn’t beat their rates for that; but he was able to beat them on homeowners.

I like having local service so I can see a face when I need help.

There is definitely an advantage to having a local business. Which is why I keep a small account with my local Wells Fargo. But as a bank, I don't have much good to say about their history of treating their customers. I never wanted a Wells Fargo bank account, but my local bank was bought out by a larger bank from Minneapolis, and then that bank was bought out by Wells Fargo. As you might imagine, the small local bank I opened the account with was the best bank, but they were bought out.
