This just makes me sick!

this I didn't know. While the whole situation upsets me, I can understand the fire station's side a little better. I just wish there was some sort of compromise that can be made. I doubt there will be one unless they can get better funding.

Sense what cops do an dont do has been brought in to this to I would like to point out that no matter what you see on the side of a cop car, there job has never been to protect you. There job is an always will be to deter crime an to investigate what crime does happen. They have no requirement to risk anything to save you. An just like firemen the hero, or superman mindset is trained out as much possible.

What part of fighting crime is not protecting you ?

I agree with hemet.

I have not read past posts. I could give a rats ass about that fee. None of us know if they could afford it or not. They live in a trailer. That speaks to them NOT affording the fee. How ANY firefighter can stand by and watch a home burn is just beyond me.

I'm just curious how the residents are notified that there is a fee?

Before this thread I had never heard of such a thing.

My thoughts had always been... the main purpose behind taxes is to support community. Sure that doesen't always work out with politics and such.. but that was supposed to be the point of taxes, at least that was what the textbooks in school upheld.
Like, the government takes care of....
Roads, Education, Police, Fire, Ambulance, Mail, Street signs, Light posts, Sidewalks, Libraries.
In return, a good citizen pays their taxes...
Income Tax, Sales Tax, Property Tax, Vehicle Registration Tax, ECT ECT on the Taxes.

If someone doesen't pay their Vehicle Registration Tax... sure, they get pulled over. Of course that part makes sense to me, and a fire department needing funds to run makes a lot of sense too.
But since it's a "Fee" and not a Tax.... I can't help wondering how people are notified of it? I've yet to hear of any such thing in my life time.
WHY isen't it just part of property taxes?

What IF.... a property owner also happened to be a landlord... and did not pay this hidden "Fee".. so the renters are left with their items burning?

So heres another question..
We dont have to "pay" the police dept or 911 to fight crime/respond in an emergency... (taxes..etc.. take care of that)
So.. is a burning home not an emergency??

Most join with that mindset. Basic training in both fields try to train that out of you. I have been threw so many classes over the years. All had some variation on this.

If you die saving someone you will be a hero.. A dead hero. Dead hero's save no one an have to be replaced. That take time an money an people die in the time while you are being replaced. You an your team are priority one. No matter what happens you make sure you an your team go home at the end of the day. Heros have no place here.

The supreme court has hashed this out already too. Cops are not crime fighters. They have no obligation to save you or protect you.

Let me put this another way. The average crime takes something like less than 2 minutes. The average response time of a 911 call is probably something like 8 minutes. If we wanted to make it a cops job to protect you from crime we would have to hire enough cops to man swat teams stationed less than a minute from everyone house. Cops like firemen have lots of things they want to do an wish they could do but the reality gets in the way.

I agree that there is a rule to not become part of the problem but each event is different if a cop is the first to arrive at a house that has smoke coming from it he will try to find out if someone is in there. He is not going to sit in his car eating a donuts and radio for the fire department. Now if he comes on a house that is fully in flames and in his judgment he would not survive then he's not going in.
But as far as no obligation to protect. Any cop that sees two or three people beating you up and does not intervene will be fired.
