How old is this chicken?

Wouldn't a hernia hsve been evident from hatch or shortly after? If you push on it gently what happens? It almost looks like it could be a hernia. If it were a hernia with intestines pushing through the movement could be caused by peristalsis.
The description sounds a lot like a botfly larva, but the picture doesn't really look like one. Usually there's a visible sore and, like others have said it's not very likely to be fly larva if she's never been outside. You can dab it with soapy water to check, if there is a botfly larva under her skin you will see bubbles moving where the breathing hole is.
Maybe not if it were small and then got larger later for some reason. I can't think of anything a chick in a brooder could do to cause it, but hernias can be caused by injury.Wouldn't a hernia hsve been evident from hatch or shortly after?
I myself have a hernia. When I push on mine it’s all squishy weird feeling and goes away for a second. The lump on my chick feels hard. I haven’t actually tried to push on it to much because I don’t want to cause her harm. I have felt it though and it doesn’t feel like mine . I don’t know if it would though because she’s a chicken and I am not .If you push on it gently what happens? It almost looks like it could be a hernia. Actually it has almost doubled in size since day before yesterday. When did you say you first noticed the lump, and how fast did it grow to this size?
