Wow! I've been browsing for several hours and I'm learnin' a lesson a minute! What a great resource! You people rock!

It's been about 50 years since I helped my Grandpa with his chickens. Now that I'm retired, I have the time and space to care for a few, and grandkids of my own to share the experience with. My wife and I are planning on raising chicks next spring. We have a spot picked out for a coop and run. I've been looking at designs and reading about design considerations. So far, the plan is for a half dozen hens (probably RIRs or Rocks) and a rooster(?) in a small coop on 2' stilts attached to a 20' x 12' run. We live in the woods by a creek and have about every kind of wild critter who makes a livin' in these parts hangin' around close -- coons, hawks, eagles, owls, foxes, skunks, possums and snakes, to name a few of the less chicken-friendly ones. So, security is an issue. I have time to plan and build.

I'll ask my construction questions in the Coop Forum.

Thanks again for being here and sharing your collective expertise.

Yes, it is incredible.
