This Ruffles My Feathers!

I used to work at the old George Airforce base out here - it's a small airport now, and I found two kittens about 3 weeks old in a box at the edge of the runway. We named them Taco and Burrito, found a home for Burrito that ended badly, but Taco is still with us 2 years later and is the BEST cat. So loveable and so cute!

Thanks for all the kind words. I've been pretty busy and haven't had any spare time to be on the puter, sorry for not responding to my own thead.... the latest two new ones are doing fine, and hopefully continue to use the litter boxes on a regular basis....

Yeah, we get drop offs all the time too, both dogs and cats. One girl showed up here, spayed and declawed! She is still with us 8 years later, we named her Angel. We have a little white kitten now that my niece found in the middle of the road. I hope to find her a home, she is very friendly. Any takers???

We live in town, a busy area and we're noticing lots more stray cats and dogs wandering lately. As people are losing jobs and homes, they are moving and leaving their pets behind. I spent a lot of time being angry about it, but I'm also starting to feel more sad lately for those people who are making a choice to "lose" their pet. These are people who have realized that this pet, who they probably loved, is one mouth too many to feed. Or that it is making it harder to find a new place to live. I don't imagine any of those people walked away and left a pet and were happy about it. Some of the folks I've talked to have just been overwhelmed with the problems. But if they had only taken the time to at least try taking that pet to a shelter the cat or dog wouldn't be wandering homelss and hungry now. Not trying to excuse the dropping off in the country, but maybe they actually were trying to save the pet from euthanasia. Thank you, to those of you who do step in and take those animals into your homes.

I just wanted to clarify something. You may see posts where I say we are in the country, and then a post like this one where I say we are in town. We live in town and are preparing to move to a plae in the country, so spend time in both places. You might say that we get the best of both worlds this way. Just wanted to take care of potential confusion.
